Celebrating the Talent of Our Youth

On Sunday, June 9th, 2019, the 11th Annual Cappies of Greater Edmonton Gala was presented at the Citadel Theatre. 19 schools from Edmonton and surrounding areas were in attendance, and the space roared with celebration for the entirety of the event.

I was a part of the critic team with my high school grades 10-12, volunteered in small areas in my first year of university, and then was asked to join the Board of Directors as the Social Media/Marketing Director in 2017. For the last two years, I have also taken show photography at nearly every school in the program, as well as the gala itself. Here are some of the moments I was able to capture.

The Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school students to be expert writers, critical thinkers, and leaders. The program was founded in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 as an effort to bring more positive attention to teenagers engaged in creative pursuits. Among the 12 other Cappies chapters that exist across Canada and the United States, Edmonton was gifted with this opportunity to recognize and appreciate the talent of young artists in 2007.
